Walking for a good cause

Delta County is $2,100 closer to having its own permanent homeless shelter, thanks to the many in the community who participated in the third annual “Have a Heart for the Homeless!” walkathon Saturday, May 11, at Confluence Lake. Funds raised for the walkathon were dedicated to the building fund of The Abraham Connection Homeless Shelter, which just wrapped up its third season of overnight, emergency shelter for the homeless and houseless of Delta County. “We are touched and grateful that so many participated in our walkathon,” said Cheryl Oeltjenbruns, board president. “And we are truly grateful for the funds raised to support our friends and neighbors in need.” Prizes were awarded to the top seven teams that collected the most funds for the shelter. The winning team was Ron and Margaret Bonine and their family. They raised $500.
