The regular business meeting of Delta Emblem Club #462 was opened in ritual form at 7:12 p.m. at the Delta Elks Lodge on May 20. The meeting was called to order by vice president Tina Shiflett.
The recording secretary, Carol Brandt, called the roll of officers and past presidents. Absent and excused was Marie Stucker, president. Past presidents were all present except for one excused.
The minutes of the April meeting were mailed and approved. Financial secretary Mary Jo Chaffee and treasurer Kay Thatcher gave year-end reports and April reports. Corresponding secretary Diane Martinez read the communications. Supreme corresponding secretary Ann McCluskey requested a gift for supreme president Charlotte Mills. All correspondence not requiring action will be filed; that needing action will be taken up under the proper order of business. Corresponding secretary Diane Martinez read the bills. A motion to pay the bills passed.
Under committee reports, Tina Shiflett said many Sunshine Committee members have been ill with some virus. For Americanism, Mary Jo Chaffee read a condensed article by Amanda Newton from the Best of Times magazine about the honor guard and patriot guard. Bingo receipts for four weeks were read. For community service, Kay Thatcher reported 131 card fronts, 29 canceled stamps, 27 box tops, 78 labels, three pairs of glasses, one large bag of tabs and 265 miles. There were no reports from drug awareness, membership or literacy. Wilma Harris reported that a scholarship form turned down by the state scholarship committee should be considered by the club. A motion was made to give a scholarship to a recipient attending Delta-Montrose Technical College. The motion passed.
It was decided not to have a bake sale during Deltarado Days but to plan a bazaar Nov. 15 and 16.
Recess was taken at which time collections for the scholarship fund were conducted. Becky Brandt won the door prize and donated it to the scholarship fund.
Under new business, members voted to send a gift for the supreme president. The money collected for fines will be put with the tips that go toward the Christmas party.
There being no further business, Shiflett closed the meeting.
The next social will be June 10 at the Elks Lodge.
