People the world over love the folklore, myths and legends of Ireland — wee people, fairies, selkies, druids, leprechauns, shamrocks, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, the Blarney stone, and of course Saint Patrick. And who among us isn't just a wee bit Irish, especially on the feast of St. Patrick?

St. Patrick is well known through myth and legend,  including the account of his banishing all the snakes from the Emerald Isle (a myth to be sure). But then, if he didn't banish them, where did all those snakes go?

For nearly a decade now, Zeta Omicron chapter of the ESA (Epsilon Alpha Sigma) Sorority has celebrated St. Patrick's Day with an Irish stew luncheon. The event helps raise money for scholarships.

According to Zeta Omicron's treasurer Shirley Clayton, the event this year  fed more than 250 people , and raised nearly $1,300 to go toward vocational  (nursing, auto mechanics, etc.), scholarships for graduating Cedaredge High School seniors.

Another scholarship — the Student Art Scholarship — is awarded to qualifying graduating seniors from Cedaredge School whose studies will include art.

With more than 20 members, Zeta Omicron meets monthly to plan social activities and philanthropic projects, and is always looking for new members. For more information, call Karen Spears at 856-4961 or Shirley Clayton at 856-3842.
