Officers of Garnet Chapter #39, Order of the Eastern Star, were installed Sept. 2. This year's theme is "Colorful Colorado" and the focus is love and appreciation of our surroundings.
Eastern Star is comprised of both men and women who wish to be of service and support charitable and benevolent acts. Eastern Star is a fraternal order, which means it is a group of individuals with common interests and goals. These goals include commitment to one another in charity, compassion and concern. The Order of the Eastern Star provides its members with a framework by which they can channel their collective efforts and charitable purposes, not only to each other but to the community and the nation. Members and their families also enjoy numerous fun activities.
The Order of the Eastern Star is not a secret society; meetings are published and good works stand for all to see. The Order of the Eastern Star raises millions of dollars annually to support such projects as Shriner's Hospitals for burned and crippled children, Knights Templar Eye Foundation, cancer, heart and arthritis research, training awards for religious leadership, and scholarships to students of any ethnic background or religious affiliation.
The Order of the Eastern Star is religious in nature, but does not take the place of a religion. Members come from all denominations.
