Stamping out hunger

ASTRA members from Delta and the Delta Opportunity School helped volunteers and friends of the Delta Food Pantry offload, sort and store donations collected by the Delta postal carriers during their annual Stamp Out Hunger Day Saturday, May 11. The staff of the Delta Food Pantry would like to thank all who participated in the food drive. Nearly 3,100 pounds of food items were collected. The Delta Food Pantry works strictly through volunteer efforts serving residents of Delta. During the month of April, meals were provided for 468 people and numbers continue to rise from past years’ statistics. Last year’s Stamp Out Hunger drive netted the food pantry over 4,000 pounds of food items, showing that while the need to help families put food on their tables continues to grow, donations are falling. For more information about the Delta Food Pantry or to make a donation to this worthy organization contact director Sandy Dombroski at 712-9918.
