Delta IOOF members get down to business on April Fools’ Day

Monday, April 1, there was no foolin' for membrs of Lee Marts VFW Post 3571 and its Ladies' Auxiliary of Delta; it was a busy work session instead.

After a potluck supper, the post and auxiliary had a brief joint meeting to finalize details of the golf tournament they are sponsoring at Devil's Thumb Golf Course on May 4.

Partners’ kites fill the air

a06 kites1Photo submitted A young Partner decorates her kite.Clouds were dark and dramatic and the wind was fitful when 20 youth from the Partners mentoring program released their kites, anxiously coaxing them into the sky March 16. There was the expectation of rain but it didn't stop these eager mentees and Nexus youth from reeling out the string and keeping their eyes fixed on the kites they had decorated and assembled earlier that afternoon.

Pea Green Community Club elects officers

The Pea Green Community Club met Thursday, March 14, for a potluck dinner and a reorganizational meeting. Forty-one members enjoyed a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, with fellowship and visiting.

Flag honoring duty

c01 vfwPhoto by Hank Lohmeyer Flag honoring duty Members of Grand Mesa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9221 performed flag-honoring duties at the beginning of the Cedaredge Town Board’s meeting on March 21. A worn U.S. flag was retired and replaced with a new one that has briefly flown over the U.S. Capitol. A new Colorado flag was also raised by post members in the community center dining hall. Post members participating in the ceremony are Deon Strain, post commander, Tom McLamb, Eldon Lyneis and Leroy Kenner.

Vets’ office name honors Gordon O’Brien

a03 obrienPhoto by Hank Lohmeyer Gordon O’Brien displays the commemorative citation he received from the Delta County Commissioners on Monday for his 24 years as Delta County’s veteran service officer, and for his many other activities supporting the community and serving its people. Shown with O’Brien at the courthouse on Monday is Brian Ayers, the county’s current veteran service officer who nominated O’Brien for the honor.Gordon O'Brien of Delta was honored by the Delta County Commissioners on Monday by having the county's Veteran Service Office named in his honor.

"Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Delta Board of County Commissioners do hereby proclaim that the Delta County Veteran Service Office be named in honor of Gordon T. O'Brien, Major, USAF (retired) and that said office shall herein be referred to as the Gordon O'Brien Veteran Service Office," states the proclamation which was mounted on a plaque, read by Commission Chair Doug Atchley and presented to O'Brien.
