Pinewood racers

Cub Scout Pack 485 held its annual Pinewood Derby race Jan. 26. The following boys participated: Andrew Wiltsie, Parker Neil, CJ Edmonds, Dawson James, Kade Nelson, Keegan Nelson, Luke Stagner, Abram Baxter, Trey Fantin, Michael Calhoun, Grant Cogdill, Blake Cogdill, Landon Cumba, Braydon Cumba, Donavan Ralui, Jacob Dillon, Joshua Stagner, Gabe Garcia, Jacob Edwards, John Pike, Devan Neil, Zachary Kuta, Brandon Miller, Tyler Neil and Andy Osteen. Boy Scout Troop 485 judged the cars for design and also participated in the open class portion of the race. Top racers were Kade Nelson, first; Keegan Nelson, second; and Luke Stagner, third. The top two finishers out of each den can participate in the district race which will be held March 23 in Montrose.

a04 hospicePhoto submitted Proceeds donated Natira Turner, owner of Petunia Beads in Delta, presented Lynn Shirk, Community Development Coordinator with Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado with a check last week for child and teen grief programs in Delta County. During the month of February, Turner dedicated 25 percent of her profits to the program. “I’m so impressed with this community and its businesses, that they see the importance of our child and teen program in Delta County, and they choose to support us,” Shirk said. Turner added she enjoyed supporting the program so much that she plans to do a similar fundraiser at her store in July.

Hospice donation

c02 hospicePhoto submitted Hospice donation On behalf of Elberta Rebekah Lodge #106, Ruth Dawson presents a $300 check to Lynn Shirk, community development director for Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado. The proceeds from the Rebekahs’ annual soup lunch, held this year on Feb. 16, are earmarked for hospice programs in Delta County. “We so appreciate their hard work and terrific soups!” Shirk said.

Soup supper raises $640 for Pioneer Town

c02 supperPhoto by Verna Barr Jane Everett, chairman of the event (left), Betty Kendrick, and Karen Wagner were soup servers at the Soup Supper for Pioneer Town.Soup has been served and everyone attending the annual Soup Supper had plenty of soups from which to choose. The event raised about $640 for the Surface Creek Valley Historical Society to be used to help with utilities and maintenance of Pioneer Town.

Girl Scouts celebrate 101st anniversary

March 12 marks Girl Scouts' 101st anniversary. In Colorado, Girl Scouts will celebrate the occasion on Monday, March 11, with Troop 54370 of Aurora leading the pledge of allegiance to open the day's session on the House of Representatives floor.
