Pitching in to help
“Journey Through Women’s Health,” the annual fundraising luncheon hosted by the Delta Doves, was a fitting occasion for check presentations from two entities supporting breast cancer prevention and awareness. Pictured with members of the Delta Doves are representatives from Curves of Delta, including Donna Deleff with the check, and Laura Morris, owner of Tara’s. At the March 1 event, models showcased colorful spring fashions from Tara’s and Nina Suzanne’s, followed by a delicious luncheon provided by Altrusa International of Delta. Starla Bacon and Dr. Heidi Marlin, both of HopeWest, were the guest speakers. The event also featured a silent auction. Pies and cakes created by Miletta Knob (pictured) always spark a friendly bidding war. Delta Doves funds mammograms for women 55 and under who cannot afford the procedure. President Beverly Moore said the future of Delta Doves is uncertain because breast imaging is now covered by all health insurance policies. In addition, the club is looking for new leadership. Several of the members who have been with the organization since its inception 17 years ago are stepping down.
