Lions ask for good used coats, jackets November 28, 2012

One of the many community efforts of the Surface Creek Valley Lions Club is the coats and jackets distribution the club has housed at the Surface Creek Community Food Bank.

With the onset of colder weather, the club is especially in need of donated coats and heavy jackets for free distribution to any area family or individual in need of one.

Tribute to Dr. Seuss

a05 altrusaPhoto by Pat Sunderland Tribute to Dr. Seuss Those attending Altrusa’s Sugar Plum Festival expected to be “wowed” by the individually decorated tables. This year, as a tribute to Dr. Seuss, the Altrusans extended their creativity to the decor at Bill Heddles Recreation Center, as illustrated by the three-dimensional elephant from Dr. Seuss’s “Horton Hears A Who.” Proceeds from this annual event benefit Altrusa’s community service projects, spotlighting literacy, food banks, schools, libraries and parks.

A new Rotarian

b03 rotaryPhoto by Kathy Browning A new Rotarian Michelle Lehman (center), owner of the Paonia Flower Shop, is the newest member of the Paonia Rotary Club. She was officially received into the service organization on Nov. 15 by club president Norman Lewark and Jackie Parks. Parks introduced Lehman by saying she had known Michelle since she was a small child and that she has grown up to be a wonderful woman. Lehman graduated from Hotchkiss High School. She has been in the floral business for 20 years.

A Delta High School JROTC member helps serve veterans breakfast at the Delta Elks Lodge. The Delta Elks sponsored a free breakfast for all veterans and their families on Veterans Day.
