Paonia native certified as fraud examiner

Alpine Bank would like to congratulate Sandra Legg on earning the globally preferred Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential from the world's most prevalent anti-fraud organization and the leading provider of anti-fraud education, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). Legg recently passed a rigorous 500-question exam administered by the ACFE to achieve this designation.

The CFE credential requires candidates to meet the ACFE's character, experience and education requirements and demonstrate extensive knowledge in four areas critical to the fight against fraud — fraudulent financial transactions, fraud prevention and deterrence, legal elements of fraud, and fraud investigation.

CFEs have the ability to examine data and records to detect and trace fraudulent transactions; interview suspects to obtain information and confessions; write investigation reports; advise clients as to their findings; testify at trial; understand the law as it relates to fraud and fraud investigations; and identify the underlying factors that motivate individuals to commit fraud. CFEs on six continents have investigated more than one million suspected cases of civil and criminal fraud.

Legg grew up in Paonia and began her career with Alpine Bank in October 1995 as a teller in the Clifton location. She found her calling in fraud six years ago and is currently the operations supervisor working out of the downtown Grand Junction location. Legg is a longtime volunteer with both the American Cancer Society and National MS Society. In her spare time, Legg enjoys going to Bronco games with her husband, Tom, and attending her nieces' and nephew's sporting events.
