Delta hunter gets a nice, big bull elk

Butcher, a former combat Marine and owner of Carbcomm International here, took one shot and made it good to down a 6x6 bull at 361 yards.

The round that did the job was a 300 Weatherby mag.

"I hunted about 20 miles south of Pagosa Springs," he said. "I got into about 150 elk (Saturday, Oct. 20) in the morning at 10,800 feet.

"The herd had seven bulls in it, but I couldn't get a shot with all the cows in the way.

"I took my bull late in the afternoon. He was with another bull and about 20 cows, a really big animal; probably about 800 pounds," he said.
