Jacob HellecksonJacob Helleckson, a senior at Paonia High School, recently participated for the third consecutive year in the 29th annual Western States Honor Orchestra Festival. This festival hosts string players from the western United States and offers intensive orchestra training, master classes, and performances with renowned soloists and conductors over a three-day period.
This year, Helleckson was selected for the Western States Chamber Orchestra which included 42 string performers. Pieces performed by this group were Symphony No. 29 in A, K.201 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Concert Piece by George Enescu, and Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge for String Orchestra, Op. 10 by Benjamin Britten.
Helleckson plays cello in the Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Valley Youth Orchestra and plans to continue his cello playing while studying international business in the fall of 2013.
