Theo Colborn has dedicated much of her life to alerting the world to what scientists know about endocrine disrupting chemicals. For the past 10 years she has done this as the founder and president of The Endocrine Exchange (TEDX).
As Dr. Colborn transitions to president emeritus, executive director Carol Kwiatkowski is taking the reins. Her focus is to maximize TEDX's effectiveness at communicating the latest science on endocrine disruption.
"As TEDX's executive director for the past five years I am tremendously excited to be celebrating our 10th anniversary. In just the past month, we've redesigned two of our most popular scientific products, published a review article on BPA, and released a trailer on 'The Fossil Fuel Connection,' " Kwiatkowski said.
"Most importantly, as TEDX's founder, Dr. Theo Colborn, transitions to the role of president emeritus, we're taking a moment to recognize her amazing contributions to the field of endocrine disruption. Without her insight and tenacity we would not be where we are today. We couldn't be more proud, or more grateful."
Colborn shared on the TEDX website about the history of TEDX and those who have worked with her.
"Ten years ago, when our little organization finally got its 501(c)(3) from the Internal Revenue Service, it was already past its toddler stage and up and running here in Paonia, thanks to two loyal staff members from Washington, D.C., who physically packed a 10,000-pound collection of journal articles and government documents and shipped them across the country. This unique, 20-year-old collection of literature about low concentrations of toxic chemicals in the environment resided in a database that is still the very heart of TEDX, although it has grown many times over," Colborn said.
"From the day we started to build TEDX I have had much to be thankful for, including a dedicated and diverse board of directors, and donors and foundations that continued supporting me after the move from Washington, D.C., and those who still support TEDX today.
"It's far more than luck when I think of the wonderful people who have worked for TEDX over the past 10 years and especially when I look at those who are with us now for this celebration. I could not ask for a better team.
"Nothing is going to please me more than to hand over the helm to Dr. Carol Kwiatkowski, where she will continue to serve the TEDX mission to do good beyond expectations ..." Colborn wrote.
To kick off the 10th anniversary celebration, TEDX is releasing an all-new view of the Critical Windows of Development website tool. Never has it been easier to see the results of hundreds of published studies on prenatal exposure to endocrine disruptors with just the click of a mouse.
Also new for the website is, "What is The Fossil Fuel Connection?" The video trailer features Theo Colborn.
