Ralph Shearer, City of Delta utility supervisor (center), was recognized by the American Public Works Association, Colorado chapter, for a project he designed and completed at the city’s water treatment plant. The city’s drinking water is treated by its supplier, Project 7, but by the time it arrives in the city “at the end of a very long straw,” chlorine levels have dropped. Jim Hougnon (left), who serves on the APWA’s Colorado board, explained Shearer designed a chloramine booster to resolve that issue, which is critical to the health and safety of the community. The project was completed almost entirely by city crews. Shearer was recognized at the Feb. 18 city council meeting by Mayor Ed Sisson (right), councilmembers and city staff.
