Great-grandmothers Beulah Scott of Ouray and Maria Guiterrez of Delta were unable to attend the ceremony due to the weather, but were there in spirit.

The couple exchanged vows surrounded by family, friends and their daughter Alaska at a small ceremony held at the Delta County Courthouse Dec. 31, 2012.

The bridal party included the bride's sister and best friend, Jourdan Herndon of Montrose, niece Rielynn Herndon, step-brother Devin Spiker of Delta, grandmother Dianne Davis of Montrose, and Teresa Bigham of Delta. The groom's party included cousins Edgar Tejada and Jessika Padilla of Delta, and his uncle and aunt, Armondo and Patricia Tejada of Delta.

The bride wore a white wedding dress with a veil made by her mother, Bridget. The groom was in his Army uniform for the ceremony. Little Alaska slept through the whole wedding, not interested in her parents' nuptials but very content to hang out with her grandpa Roy. The reception was hosted by the groom's family in Delta later that day. The Chavez family provided traditional Mexican food for the couple and all those who attended.

The bride is a 2011 graduate of Delta High School and is a cashier at Target in Montrose. The groom is a 2012 graduate of Delta High School and graduated from Army boot camp in Fort Benning, Ga., on Nov. 18, 2012. They will be making their home at Ft. Hood, Texas, where the groom is stationed with the U.S. Army.
