Mary Ann Mino of Austin, formerly of Algona, Iowa, died following a severe stroke on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 95.
Mrs. Mino was born Aug. 15, 1916, in LeCenter, Minn. When she was two, she and her family moved to Boy River, Minn., where she spent her childhood and attended school.
She married Edwin Mino on Dec. 24, 1940. They farmed near Swea City, Iowa, and near Algona, Iowa. In 1959 they moved to Algona, Iowa, where she opened Mary Ann's Café and Blue Acres Used Clothing before she retired.
Mrs. Mino moved to Austin in 2005 after the death of her husband to live with her daughter. She enjoyed gardening, making quilts for all her family members and hosting family gatherings and celebrations. She was a 50-year member of the Algona Methodist Church, past worthy matron of Algona Eastern Star and a member of several card clubs.
She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Jo Ann and Duane Price of Austin; her granddaughters, Sherri Price and children of Cedaredge, and Melody Keller and her husband Don and children of Grand Junction; a grandson, Kelly of Austin; three other daughters, Myrna Smith and her husband Charles and family of Perry and Des Moines, Iowa, Rose Lee and her husband Robert and family of Perry, Iowa, and Rebecca Mino and her husband Tim Matya of Aurora; a sister, Joyce Flannagin of St. Augustine, Fla.; and two sisters-in-law, Catherine Mino of Blue Earth, Minn., and Doris Kirkwood of Rawlings, Wyo.
Mrs. Mino was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Edwin, a granddaughter, a grandson, three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held later in January at the First United Methodist Church in Algona, Iowa.
