Darrell Edward Baker of Eckert died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at his home. He was 83.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. at Eckert Presbyterian Church with Reverend Jo DeVinny officiating.
Mr. Baker was born Nov. 2, 1928, in Petersburg, Neb., to Walter and Genevieve (Margarum) Baker. He spent his childhood and attended school in Genoa, Neb.
He enlisted in the United States Navy when he was 17 and was stationed in St. Petersburg, Fla., serving as a fireman.
Mr. Baker married Vivian Nelson on May 28, 1950, in Genoa, Neb. They lived in eastern Nebraska prior to moving to Fort Collins. They moved to the Eckert area in 1990.
He was a member of Eckert Presbyterian Church and was a session member for three years. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, horseback riding and working with animals. He had cattle, sheep and horses.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Vivian Baker of Eckert; two sons and their wives, Dan and Ellena Baker of Durango, and Randy and Nancy Baker of Cedaredge; a daughter and her husband, Colleen and Marc Drury of Kinnear, Wyo.; a brother and his wife, Don and Donna Baker of St. Edward, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Scott Baker and Trisha Baker White, both of Albuquerque, N.M., Cody Baker of Denver, Alexandra Baker of London, England, Amy Luton of Lander, Wyo., April Luton of Lancaster, Mass., and Andrea Caproni of Riverton, Wyo.; one great-grandchild, Jade Luton of Lancaster, Mass.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters.
