Santos Chavez

a08_chavezSantos Jose Chavez of Delta died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at his home in Delta. He was 12.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10, at St. Michael's Catholic Church.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta with Father Canice Enyiaka presiding. Burial will follow at Mesa View Cemetery.

Santos Jose Chavez was born to Carlos and Heather (Gallegos) Chavez on July 8, 2000, in Delta. He spent his entire childhood and attended schools in Delta.

Santos was an avid reader and exceptional student who loved learning. He was on the Delta Middle School Knowledge Bowl team and placed third in the district spelling bee. He also attended a Colorado School of Mines program where he was offered advanced classes. Santos dreamed of becoming a cardiovascular surgeon.

Santos enjoyed playing sports. He was a member of the Delta Middle School football team, all star baseball player for two years and wrestled competitively since he was three years old. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he served as an alter server.

He is survived by his parents, Heather and Carlos Chavez of Delta; two siblings, Isaac Chavez and Sophia Chavez, both of Delta; maternal grandparents, Joseph Gallegos of Delta and D'Juana Andregg of Parachute; paternal grandparents, Jose and Tina Chavez of Delta; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

Santos was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal great-grandparents.

Arrangements are being handled by Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
