Bill Fischer

Graveside services for Dolores resident Billie Keith "Bill" Fischer were held Saturday, Nov. 3, at Summit Ridge Cemetery in Dolores. Military honors were conducted by Montezuma County VFW Post #5231.

Mr. Fischer was born Aug. 31, 1926, in Taft, Calif., to Ed and Liza Fischer. He died at his residence on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at the age of 86.

Mr. Fischer moved to Cedaredge as a child with his family. He attended school in Cedaredge and graduated from high school there. He was a World War II veteran having served his country in the United States Navy from 1944-1947. He was a boatswain mate.

He married his high school sweetheart, Jean Cook, on Aug. 14, 1947. He began his career with the Division of Wildlife in 1953 in Durango. He was transferred to Dolores in 1954 as a game warden and he held that position for 31 years. After retirement Mr. Fischer worked a number of summers with the U.S. Forest Service. He was a devout Christian and family man and was known for his keen sense of humor.

He is survived by three children, Sherry, Mike and Pat, all of Dolores; five grandsons, Aaron Holton and wife Becky of Tucson, Ariz., Andrew Holton and wife Jessi of Tucson, Ariz., Jerod Holton of Las Vegas, Nev., Zane Fischer of Dolores, and Nate Fischer of Denver; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Dick Fischer and wife Jean and Ron Fischer and wife Diane.

Mr. Fischer was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jean Fischer; an infant son; and two brothers, Vernon Fischer and Eddy Fischer.

Services were under the direction of Ertel Funeral Home.
