Harlan Lee "Mac" McDaniel of Cortez died Nov 10, 2012, at Southwest Memorial Hospital. He was 76.
He was born Nov. 15, 1935, in Delta to Howard and Nellie (Finley) McDaniel.
He married Shirley Dixon on Aug. 21, 1955, in Austin. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this year.
The family moved to Cortez in 1960 where Mr. McDaniel worked at the Port of Entry for 18 years. He was an over-the-road trucker until 1984, and worked for the Montezuma County road department until retireing in 2000.
Mr. McDaniel enjoyed model railroading, was a member of the Montezuma Model Railroading Club and participated in the local diabetic support group.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Cortez; two sons, Lance McDaniel of San Diego, Calif., and Kent McDaniel of Thornton; a daughter, Sherilyn of Cortez; two granddaughters, Megan of Phoenix, Ariz., and Cayla of Denver; a great-granddaughter, Marley of Denver; a brother, Roger McDaniel of Austin; a brother-in-law, Ronald Mumm of Olathe; and five nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois.
Upon Mr. McDaniel's request, no services will be held. A family celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2013.
