Hotchkiss resident Howard "Stanley" Hill died Nov. 12, 2012, at Delta County Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was 87.
A memorial service was held Nov. 15 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss. A private inurnment took place at the Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss.
Mr. Hill was born Feb. 25, 1925, to Henry and Flossie (Taylor) Hill in Hotchkiss. He attended schools in Hotchkiss until the age of 16 when he quit to help his mother take care of his invalid father.
He married Zelda Gregory on July 18, 1943 in Hotchkiss.
Mr. Hill served 17 months with the U.S. Army in post-war Germany. He worked a variety of jobs during his lifetime, retiring from the Delta County road crew, after which he started a small engine repair business.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially the mountains, horseback riding, fishing, hunting and pack trips with family and friends.
Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of 69 years, Zelda of Delta; two daughters, Anna Jean George and her husband Gabby of Hotchkiss and Charlotte Bradford and her husband J.D. of Grand Junction; four granddaughters and their spouses; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a great-grandson-in-law; and a soon-to-be-great-granddaughter-in-law.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Debbie.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements were handled by Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
