Barbara Penick

Cedaredge resident Barbara Penick died of cancer Dec. 1, 2012, at her home. She was 73.

A viewing for family and friends was held Dec. 4 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge.

A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Cedaredge. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. at Cedaredge Cemetery.

Barbara C. Hammett was born to Francis and Mary (Honeywell) Hammett on June 30, 1939, in Lewistown, Mont. She spent her early childhood in Seattle, Wash., before moving to Cedaredge when she entered the eighth grade. She graduated from Cedaredge High School and furthered her education at Loretto Heights College in Denver.

Mrs. Penick enjoyed being a mother and grandmother, gardening, spending time with her family, reading and learning. She lived in Colorado Springs for several years before moving back to Cedaredge in 1997. She was a member of St. Philip's Catholic Church in Cedaredge.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Penick of Florida, and Edward Penick of Colorado; three daughters, Theresa Crow of Oklahoma, Catherine Hanscom of Colorado, and Pamela Penick of Colorado; five brothers, Francis "Bud" Hammett, William "Bill" Hammett, Forest "Eddie" Hammett, all of Colorado, Joe Hammett, and Shone Hammett; two sisters, MaryAnn Peterson and Sue Hainer, both of Colorado; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
