Karen Roberts

a07 robertsKaren Elizabeth Bangert Roberts died Dec. 16, 2012, in Wake Forest, N.C. She was 70.

She was diagnosed with cancer Nov. 15 while she was still teaching.

She was born in Delta on Nov. 3, 1942, to Dave and Lola Mae (Myers) Bangert. After graduating from Delta High School in 1961 she attended Mesa Junior College and received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She earned a master's degree from CU - Boulder.

In 1965 she married Lloyd Roberts. They divorced after 20 years of marriage.

Mrs. Roberts lived in Grand Junction, Greeley, Denver, Hartford, Conn., and Wilmington, N.C., before returning to Delta where she taught language arts at Delta Middle School.

She enjoyed raising her children, traveling in the U.S., skiing the Alps, sailing the Atlantic on the BenElis and touring China.

She is survived by her son, Ben Roberts of Canandaigua, N.Y.; her daughter, Rev. Elizabeth Roberts and her husband Aaron Muscle of Wake Forest, N.C.; her grandchildren, Libby Muscle and Wesley Muscle; her mother, Lola Bangert of Delta; her brothers, Lawrence, his wife Sylvia and their five children of Reno, Nev., Cecil Bangert and his daughter of Delta, and Buckley Bangert and his wife Molly of Cortez; her sisters, Peggy McCool, her husband Morris and their four children of Kent, Wash., and Debra Bonzek and her husband Henry of Grand Junction.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dave Bangert; and a brother, Larry Bangert.

A service of death and resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Delta United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Methodist Home for Children, 1041 Washington Street, Raleigh, NC 27605, or to a non-profit of one's choice.

Arrangements were handled by Renaissance Funeral Home.
