Earlynne Barcus

a07 barcusHelen "Earlynne" Barcus of Crawford died Jan. 4, 2013, at Paonia Care Center. She was 81.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Crawford Community United Methodist Church with Rev. John Hiestand officiating.

Helen Earlynne Butters was born June 26, 1931, to Earl and Helen (Johnson) Butters in Greeley. From the age of 9 she was raised by her aunt and uncle in Fruita. She graduated from Fruita Union High School in 1949. After graduation she received her bachelor's degree from Western State College in Gunnison and her master's degree from Brigham Young University.

She married John Barcus on July 24, 1950, in Fruita. They lived in Crawford since her retirement in 1989.
Mrs. Barcus was a member of the Crawford Community United Metho-dist Church, UMW,

S & B Quilters, Canyon Wrenderings Audubon Society, Friends of the Crawford State Park and North Fork Trails Network of which she and John were founders. She enjoyed her family and friends, quilting, reading, walking, hiking and cooking.

She is survived by her husband, John Barcus of Crawford; two sons, Gary Barcus and his wife Wendi of Ventura, Calif.; and Marty Barcus and his wife Debbie of Hamilton, Mont.; her daughter, Janie White and her husband Duane of Grand Junction; a granddaughter, Taylor Barcus; two stepgrandchildren, Heather King and Sean Beinlich; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Colin, Alex and Brooklyn King.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Dean Butters; and her sister, Marion Butters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford Community United Methodist Church, 297 Dogwood Avenue, Crawford, CO 81415.

Arrangements are being handled by Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
