Juanita June Nye of Montrose died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Colorow Care Center in Olathe. She was 96.
Mrs. Nye was born June 1, 1916, to Charles and Estella (Stoop) Mingus in Fremont, Neb. She spent her childhood in the San Luis Valley.
She married John Nye on Sept. 10, 1930, in Taos, N.M. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1997, in Durango.
Mrs. Nye was the owner and operator of J&J Market and the Olathe Variety Store. She was a member of the Olathe United Methodist Church. She enjoyed barrel racing, slot machine gambling, dancing, playing the card game "Pitch," bowling and the Denver Broncos. She was an avid horse trainer.
She is survived by a son, Ronald Nye of Alamosa; a daughter, Della Cooper of Montrose; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Travis Cooper.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Clark Valley Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Harold Lovato officiating. Interment will follow at Olathe Cemetery.
