Delta resident Norman L. Thurston Sr. died Jan. 24, 2013, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 74.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 3, at Heavens View in Delta.
Norman Lee Thurston Sr. was born July 13, 1938, in Hays, Kan., to Chester and Effie (Reedy) Thurston. He spent his childhood in Norwood and Hotchkiss. He lived in Delta for the past 30 years.
Mr. Thurston enjoyed hunting, logging, story telling and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Rose Martinez and spouse Anthony of Montrose, Warren Thurston and partner Ronald Castaneda of Denver, Christina Manzanares and spouse Christopher, and Norman Thurston Jr. and spouse Amanda, all of Delta; a brother, Sandy Thurston of Moab, Utah; a sister, Ruth Mae Hubbins and spouse Lynn of Dighton, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, William "Bill," Jim, Ronnie, Earl and Keith Thurston; and two sisters, Cora Bell and Julia.
Arrangements are being handled by Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
