Grand Junction resident Rose Marie Schafer died March 8, 2013, at her daughter's home in Grand Junction. She was 84.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 15, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss.
Rose Marie Cunningham was born June 22, 1928, to LeRoy and Gertrude (Kitchen) Cunningham in Denver. She spent her childhood and attended schools in Denver, graduating from South High School in 1947.
She married Ronald Schafer Jan. 6, 1951, in Lander, Wyo. They lived in Wyoming and South Dakota before moving to Hotchkiss in 1954. Between 1968 and 2008 they lived in Greeley and Evans. Mr. Schafer died Feb. 18, 1981. In 2008 Mrs. Schafer moved to Grand Junction.
Mrs. Schafer was an artist and enjoyed being a mother and grandmother, cooking, music and studying her Bible. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and the Senior Citizens Center.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Schafer and wife Cindy of Colorado City and John Schafer of Woodland Park; three daughters, Patricia Rey-nolds and husband Ed of Portland, Ore., Betty Schafer of Grand Junction and Nancy Edwards and husband Rob of Milwaukie, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Schafer was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Schafer.
