Lifetime Delta resident Edward Schmalz died March 8, 2013, at Colorow Care Center in Olathe. He was 73.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 15, at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Canice Enyiaka presiding. Inurnment will follow at Delta City Cemetery.
Edward Tripler Schmalz was born Sept. 8, 1939, to Edward and Mary (Tripler) Schmalz in Delta. He spent his childhood in Delta and Montrose and graduated from Olathe High School in 1957.
He married Terri Thul in Delta June 2, 1973. They would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year.
Mr. Schmalz, a retired farmer, enjoyed being a husband, father and grandfather, spending time outdoors whether in the mountains or watching wildlife, and watching football and basketball.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta.
He is survived by his wife, Terri Schmalz of Delta; one son, Daniel Schmalz and wife Abbey of Grand Junction; one daughter, Melissa McClure and husband Tyler of Grand Junction; one brother, Steve Schmalz and wife Marilyn of Delta; two sisters, Shirley Appelhanz and husband Eddie of Montrose, and Kathy Gray and husband Andy of Woodland Park; four grandchildren, Nathan and Alexandria McClure, and Noah and Olivia Schmalz.
