Tony R. Justin of Delta died April 6, 2013, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 90.
Mr. Justin was born in Somerset Nov. 20, 1922, to Anton and Frances Justin.
He spent his childhood and attended school through the eighth grade in Somerset. He graduated from Paonia High School. He attended Mesa Junior College, where he played football. He graduated in 1942. In November 2012 he was co-honored at a 90th birthday celebration with Mesa Junior College classmates Bernice Musser of Delta and Verna Stranger of Grand Junction.
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Southeast Asia Command in India, Ceylon and Singapore. He earned the rank of Tec 3.
He started his career as a mine clerk with Calumet Fuel Company and continued employment with various mining companies in Somerset. He retired from U.S. Steel Corporation as senior stores accountant in 1984.
He married Glenna Harris in 1947 in Denver. They raised their family in Somerset and Paonia before moving to Delta in 1992. They would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on April 9.
Mr. Justin is survived by his wife, Glenna; two daughters, Toni Morris and husband Arthur of Mesa, Ariz., and Vicki Musser and husband John of Delta; two sons, Tom Justin and Kevin Justin and wife Donna, all of Delta; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Haines; half-sister, Frances Meredith; half-brothers, Louis and Joseph Penko. Mr. Justin was a member of the American Legion Post 0097 for 46 years, the Last Squad, and BPOE #1807 for 33 years. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paonia and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta.
At his request, there will be no memorial service. Arrangements were handled by Clark's Valley Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Montrose.blog comments powered by Disqus
