Austin resident Philip Wheeler died April 1, 2013. He was 68.
He was born in Harvard, Ill., in 1944 and grew up in Walworth, Wis.
Soon after graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17. He was injured in Vietnam when a troop carrier he was riding in drove over a land mine. He received three Purple Hearts for his military service.
Prior to moving to Colorado, he lived in Florida.
Mr. Wheeler enjoyed gardening and landscaping.
He is survived by his mother, Ardis Miller; his aunt, Joyce Haskins; and his nephew, Gary Miller.
At his request, no services will be held. Burial will be in Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction.blog comments powered by Disqus
