Eckert resident Melvin Peterson died April 27, 2013, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 75.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, at First Baptist Church in Cedaredge with Pastor Dik Abbott presiding. Burial will follow at Cedaredge Cemetery.
Melvin Keith Peterson was born in Delta Jan. 16, 1938, to Frank and Anita (Bowers) Peterson. He lived in Cedaredge his entire life, attending Cedaredge schools and graduating from Cedaredge High School in 1956. He attended heavy equipment school in Idaho where he learned road construction skills.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1960 and served two years. While home on leave he married Carol Graham on June 10, 1961. They celebrated 51 years of marriage.
After completing his military service he worked for Delta County Road and Bridge until joining the U.S. Forest Service in 1965. He spent his entire career on the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forest out of the Delta office. He retired in May 1994 and returned to work for Delta County until full retirement in 1998.
Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife, Carol of Eckert; son, Keith Peterson and wife Theresa of Eckert; daughter, Angie Wilson and husband John of Grand Junction; a sister, Betty Kendrick of Eckert; and four grandchildren, Marty Peterson, Josiah Wilson, Elizabeth Wilson and Thomas Wilson.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
