Opal Lynch died May 24, 2013, at Paonia Care Center. She was 105.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 31, at Crawford Community United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Opal Ruth Collins was born in Clear Fork in 1908 to Luther and Carrie Collins. She was five years old when she began attending school in Clear Fork. She attended high school in Crawford for three years and graduated from Gunnison High School in 1925. She attended Western State College.
Mrs. Lynch taught school for 40 years in several schools including Onion Valley near Maher, DeBeque, New Castle, Uravan and Clear Fork. From 1951 to 1969 she taught in Crawford. She finished her teaching career in Cedaredge in 1971.
She married Herbert Slay in 1929. He died of heart failure in 1937. She married Robert Seehorn who died in 1957. She married John Lynch in 1964. He died in 1971.
Mrs. Lynch was the van coordinator for senior citizens and was active in the Crawford Community United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, National Retired Teachers, Delta County Retired Teachers, Book and Study Club and Red Hats. She lived at home until she was 100.
She enjoyed her 12 nieces and nephews, 36 great-nieces and nephews; and three great-great-nieces and nephew.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lilly, Claudine, John and Beth.
