Arnold Matthew Kapushion died June 3, 2013, at the age of 78. He was born May 28, 1935, to Matthew and Mary Jane (Ochko) in Crested Butte.
He spent his youth working on area ranches and graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School in Trinidad in 1954. He immediately joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Korea, earning a black belt in judo. He was discharged in 1957.
He married Kathleen on Jan. 31, 1959. They lived in Jefferson County until moving to Austin in 1998.
Mr. Kapushion was active in youth groups including Little League baseball and 17 years in scouting.
In 1992 he retired from Rocky Flats after 30 years, with an absence to attend Western State College in Gunnison. Before returning to Rocky Flats he served three years with the Colorado State Patrol in the Lafayette area. He served on the Arvada Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years and was a member of Elks Lodge #2278 and American Legion Post #161.
After moving to Austin he enjoyed raising livestock. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; two sons, Arnold Kapushion II and his wife Jill of Evergreen, and Anthony and wife Jacqueline of Erie; daughters, Blanche and Jay Haug of Lakewood, Jacqueline Sammons and husband Ron of Elizabeth; six grandchildren, Katherine, William Perry and Lewis Sammons, and Lauren, Nicholas and Zachary Kapushion; a sister, Mary Jane Marasco of Golden; a brother, Donald and wife Helen of Lakewood; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by a younger brother, Matthew Jr.
