Former Delta resident Joseph Achenbrenner died from cancer May 23, 2013, at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was 75.
He was born in Silverton Aug. 30, 1937, to Joseph and Beata (Lell) Aschenbrenner.
After graduation from Delta High School he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a radar man on the destroyer escort USS Strickland.
In 1960 he began working as a traffic signal journeyman for the Colorado Department of Transportation. He retired after 40 years as traffic operations supervisor.
He married Mary Baker May 17, 1963, in Aurora. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
Mr. Achenbrenner enjoyed golf, hunting, watching the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies, chatting with his coffee-drinking buddies and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; three children, Elaine Winick and husband Tim, Joseph Aschenbrenner and Stanley Aschenbrenner; two granddaughters, Maria Rivas and Megan Rivas; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Tru Winick and Turk Winick; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life reception will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 23, at the Adamson Reception Center in Greeley.
