Jerald "Jerry" L. Sanders died May 28, 2013, at his home in Eckert. He was 66.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 14, at the Eckert Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jo DeVinny presiding.
He was born in Lewiston, Idaho, Feb. 25, 1947, to Maynard "Lucky" and Clois (Hibbetts) Sanders. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Albuquerque, N.M., graduating from Manzano High School in 1965. He received his master's degree in music education from the University of New Mexico.
He lived in Crawford for several years before moving to Eckert two years ago.
On March 28, 2012, he married Nancy Carlson in Eckert. She survives.
Mr. Sanders enjoyed golfing, reading, gardening and bringing joy to others through music. He taught music and chorus for many years in the Albuquerque school system, in Aztec, N.M., and in Grand Junction. He was choir director at Eckert Presbyterian Church and was a member of Cedaredge Golf Century Club, Valley Symphony Chorus and North Fork Valley Chorus.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Carlson-Sanders of Eckert; his mother, Clois Sanders of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons, Jeremy Sanders and wife Ashley of Edmond, Okla., and Aaron Sanders of Albuquerque, N.M.; one stepson, Eric Carlson of Loma; one stepdaughter, Cynthia Bade and husband Jim of Minnesota; three brothers, Jim Sanders of Denver, John Sanders and wife Wanda of Dumas, Texas, and Joe Sanders and wife Jude of Littleton; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; his niece, Brenda; and three nephews, Ryan, Jordan and Keith.
He was preceded in death by his father.
