Eckert resident Cherry Nyland died June 17, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. She was 61.
Funeral services were held June 22 at Eckert Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Eckert Cemetery.
Cherry Ann Nyland was born in Norton, Kan., Nov. 26, 1951, to Warren and Laura (Masterson) Nyland. She lived in Denver, Evergreen and Cedaredge, graduating from Cedaredge High School.
After graduation, she married Donald Young. They lived in Cedaredge for 25 years. She moved to Oklahoma in 1996 and returned to Eckert in 2003.
Ms. Nyland worked at Walmart for 15 years and drove a school bus for Cedaredge for 17 years. She was a Girl Scout leader and coached softball when her daughters played. She was a member of Eckert Presbyterian Church.
She enjoyed fishing, hunting and, in her earlier years, horseback riding.
Ms. Nyland is survived by her mother, Laura Nyland; her significant other, Starr Cannon of Eckert; two daughters, Sherry Aguilar and fiancé Daron Likes of Eckert and Deanna Rivas and husband Rob of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; her sisters, Cheryl Hammett and husband Forest, Debbie Wilkerson and husband Terry, all of Cedaredge, and Diana Young and husband Donald of Payson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Warren Nyland, and her brother, Warren Nyland Jr.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
