Thelma Pettis, a lifetime resident of Montrose County, died July 12, 2013, at Valley Manor Nursing Home. She was 73.
She was born to Rollie and Nancy (Harris) Flaiz on Dec. 11, 1939, in Delta. She spent her childhood and attended school in Olathe.
She married Eldon Pettis in Montrose on March 13, 1957. He died in May 2000.
Mrs. Pettis was a homemaker and loved to travel the country with her husband as he was driving truck. After he retired in 1998 they purchased a small herd of sheep which they enjoyed. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, traveling to rodeos to watch family members compete and going on mountain drives. She had lived at Valley Manor for two years.
She is survived by a brother and his wife, Billy and Ruby Flaiz of Fortuna, Calif.; two sisters and their husbands, Alma and Ron Hintz of Olathe and Patsy and George Lange of Riverton, Utah; a son, Byron Pettis and wife Mary of Trinidad; a daughter, Laura Smith and husband Jerry of Montrose; five grandchildren, Ryan Cannon and husband Dustin of Delta, Jessie and husband Jake of Olathe, Cole Smith of Montrose, Tyrell and Wyatt Mincic of Trinidad; two great-grandchildren, Elaine and Conner Cannon; another great-grandchild on the way named Altman; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Eldon.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 19, at 1 p.m. at Crippin Funeral Chapel in Montrose with Pastor Scott Myer officiating. Interment will follow at the Olathe Cemetery.
