Delta resident Tommy Saruwatari died Aug. 4, 2013. He was 83.
He was born in Delta Aug. 15, 1929, to Tom and Tatsu Saruwatari. He spent most of his life in Delta.
Mr. Saruwatari served in the U.S. Air Force.
He married Yoneko Matsubara Aug. 9, 1954. They were married 56 years before Yone died in 2011.
He owned and operated a farm in Delta for 39 years before retiring. He enjoyed the Colorado Rockies, the Denver Broncos, fishing, snowmobiling, reading and doing crossword puzzles. He was a member of the Snokrusers snowmobile club and the Delta Potato Growers Co-op.
He is survived by two sisters, Toyo Nochi and husband Ed of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Shizu Mochizuki of Bountiful, Utah; his children, David Saruwatari and wife Susan, Janice Meyer and husband Kraig, Sharon Parker and husband Frederick, all of Grand Junction, Steve Saruwatari of Delta, and Terry Hall and husband John of Denver; 10 grandchildren, Garrett and Logan Saruwatari, Emily, Scotty and Adam Hall, Laura, Jamie and Kayla Meyer, and Rachael and Nicholas Chaffee.
Church services will be held at First Baptist Church of Delta at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10. Inurnment will follow immediately at Delta City Cemetery.
