Paonia resident Dale LaVerne Soucek joined his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at his residence in Paonia. He was 79 years of age.
A private family graveside service will be held in Dale's honor at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado. A celebration of life service will be held in the fall of 2013. Time, date and place to be announced.
Dale LaVerne Soucek was born to Joseph and Rena (Peterson) Soucek on July 17, 1934, in Bladen, Neb. He spent his childhood in Bladen, Neb., and attended schools in Minden, Neb. He graduated from Minden High School in 1952; after high school Dale attended Hastings College where he graduated with a B.A. in 1956. He started his teaching career for the public schools in David City, Neb. Shortly after that he served his country in the Army. He later went on to receive two master's degrees, in 1962 and 1975.
On June 12, 1959, Dale married Barbara Alma Beale in Hastings, Neb. To this union, three children were born. The couple had the honor of sharing 54 years of love and marriage before Dale's passing.
Dale, a devoted father and loving husband, enjoyed gardening, hunting, reading and music, but most of all he loved and cherished his family.
He was the minister of music at various churches in Colorado Springs, Mesa, Ariz., and Delta County. He served his community on various boards including library, water district, NRA instruction and the Grand Junction Symphony.
Dale devoted 33 years to teaching music for schools in Colorado Springs, David City, Neb., and Dearborn Heights, Mich.
Dale is survived by his wife Barbara (Beale) Soucek of Paonia; daughter, Sandra Jean (Dan) Sundstrom of Grand Junction; two sons, Stephen Jon (Marva) Soucek of Littleton and Paul Andrew Soucek of Gilbert, Ariz.; cousin Bob James of Hastings, Neb.; eight grandchildren, Jon (Kate), Joanna and Julia Sundstrom; Courtney, Jake and Sydney Soucek; Noelle and Nathaniel Soucek; and dear nieces Mary Epp-Jones and Lenore Epp, as well as other family and friends.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rena Soucek.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Dale's memory to one of the following organizations: Paonia Christian Fellowship; Paonia North Fork Baptist Church; Delta County Oncology Center; Grand Junction Symphony; Hastings (Neb.) College Music Dept.; or to the Colorado Springs School District 11 Music Dept.
