Thomas Avon Benson died Sept 2, 2013, in Delta. He was 81.
He was born on Cedar Mesa near Cedaredge April 9, 1932, to Clarence and Urgal (Ament) Benson. He was raised on a Cedar Mesa farm.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 until 1960.
On June 4, 1956, he married Charlotte Wethington.
Mr. Benson worked in several professions and earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Mesa College in 1980.
He enjoyed fishing, reading books, woodcarving and horseback riding.
He is survived by his son, Charlton Benson and wife Diane of Saginaw, Mich.; his daughters, Teresa Gurney and husband Chad of Hudson, Iowa, Valerie Benson and Kimberly Stauffer and husband Rick, all of Grand Junction; his brother, Byron Benson of Delta; his sisters, Mary Broadwell and husband Jim of Johnstown, and Cheryl Benson of Delta; his sister-in-law, Edna Benson; seven grandchildren, David, Mark, Joshua, Heidi, Christina, Ashley and Rebekah; one great-grandchild, Maylynn; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Benson was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; a sister, Eunice Benson; and a brother, Clarence "Mike" Benson.
Funeral services and interment were held with full military honors at Delta City Cemetery Sept. 5.
