Martha Ann "Aunt Sue" Carmack Caddel of Cedaredge died Sept. 7, 2013. She was 71.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 13, at Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church.
Martha was born Oct. 21, 1941, in Ardmore, Okla.
After graduating high school she was working for Oklahoma Gas and Electric when she met Jerry Martin Caddel. He convinced her to marry him and move to Texas in June of 1963. In the fall of 1990 they packed up and left Waco, Texas, for Cedaredge.
She was an active member of Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church, where in 2002 she was awarded the "Silent Disciple" award for her involvement and many hours with the thrift shop and Angel Doll project. She was also a dedicated volunteer with the Cedaredge food bank.
Martha was diagnosed in 1991 with breast cancer. Her fight became the inspiration and comfort to many women that looked to her when they too had to face the fight of their lives.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jerry Martin Caddel; her daughter, Elizabeth Caddel of Round Rock, Texas; her son, Wilson Caddel, wife Jenny and granddaughter Jaclyn Sue, all of Calvert, Texas; a brother, Charles "Bosco" Carmack and his wife Ollene; and many other family members and close friends in both Colorado and Texas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Surface Creek Community Services Food Bank, P.O. Box 963, Cedaredge, CO 81413; or to the cancer foundation of one's choice.
