Longtime Cedaredge resident Mitzie M. Gabriel died Nov. 7, 2013, at her home. She was 82.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 15, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Cedaredge Ward with Bishop Tullis conducting. Family and friends are invited to attend the inurnment that will take place at Cedaredge Cemetery following the church service.
Mrs. Grabiel was born in Grand Junction Sept. 15, 1931, to Stanley and Marcella (Maddox) Hocker. She grew up in Grand Junction until the family moved to Cedaredge, where she graduated from high school.
On Sept. 15, 1950, she married Eugene Gabriel in Eckert. In 1957 they moved to Ely, Nev., where they lived until moving back to Cedaredge in 1987.
Mrs. Gabriel was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Cedaredge Ward.
She enjoyed her family, working with genealogy, cooking, canning, swimming and her animals.
She is survived by six children, Neila (Danny) Swapp of St. George, Utah, Eugene (Deann) Gabriel Jr. of Eckert, Karen (Royce) Engan of Cedaredge, Steve (Pam) Gabriel of Mountain Home, Idaho, Sally Holderness of Eagle and Mark (Laura) Gabriel of Marble; a brother, Neil Hocker of Cedaredge; 28 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Cindy Paff-Petrini; and a son, Tim Gabriel.
