Fruita resident George "Doc" Hicks died Oct. 27, 2013, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Denver following a short illness.
He was born in Paonia to George and Sophie Hicks.
He graduated from Paonia High School in 1957.
Mr. Hicks was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the Veterans Honor Guard and American Legion in Mesquite, Nev., and the Combined Honor Guard in Grand Junction. He was a member of church choirs in Mesquite, Nev., and Grand Junction, and was a former member of the Ridgway Volunteer Fire Department.
He was the owner of Doc's Hitchin' Post in Ridgway from 1975 to 1988. He enjoyed hiking the Colorado mountains.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol; two children, Robert of Colorado Springs and Libby of Grand Junction; and four grandchildren, Mirissa Hicks, Ryan Hicks, Loryn Chiapuzio and Adrienne Chiapuzio.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Clair.
Interment with full military honors will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Western Colorado Veterans Cemetery in Grand Junction.
