Former Delta resident Lloyd M. Carothers Sr. died unexpectedly Dec. 4, 2013, at his home in Cañon City. He was 80.
He was born in Macon, Mo., Feb. 17, 1933, to Carl and Myrtle (Ellis) Carothers.
He married Betty Jo Lendrum March 16, 1952. They celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Mr. Carothers was a Colorado highway patrolman in Colorado Springs. He worked for the Colorado Department of Corrections in Delta for 15 years before transferring to Cañon City in 1980. He retired as a captain in 1995.
He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Cañon City.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, bowling, the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies.
Mr. Carothers is survived by his children, Lloyd (Viola) Carothers Jr. of Cedaredge, Steve (Julie) Carothers of Page, Ariz., and Kim (Terry) Raines of Herriman, Utah; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo; a son, Tim Carothers; and a granddaughter, Heather Carothers.
Memorial services were held Dec. 10 at Evangelical Free Church in Cañon City.
