JoAnn Mathews, a lifetime Delta County resident, died Dec. 7, 2013, at HopeWest Care Center in Grand Junction. She was 58.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia.
JoAnn Spiess was born in Delta Feb. 9, 1955, to Dallas and Nancy (Selby) Spiess. She spent her childhood and attended school in Paonia. She graduated from Paonia High School in 1973.
On July 20, 1973, she married Jerald Mathews in Paonia. They made their home in Paonia.
Mrs. Mathews was a retired secretary. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, playing bingo, music and her family. She was a member of the Emblem Club.
She is survived by one son, James Mathews of California; two daughters, Cathy (Dean Jr.) Lampton of Paonia and Cari Diehl of North Carolina; a stepdaughter, Mickie (Rob) Peters of South Dakota; and several brothers, sisters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerald Mathews; two brothers, Stanley and Johnny Converse; her father, Dallas Spiess; and mother and stepfather, Nancy and Linton Converse.
Memorial contributions may be made to HopeWest Care Center in Grand Junction.
Arrangements were handled by Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
