Bessie Mae Thomas died Nov. 24, 2013, in Lakewood.
She was born in 1925.
She grew up in Englewood and after her marriage raised her family in Westminster. She retired with her husband to Delta, where they had a farm on B50 Road. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed meals at the senior center. A Marine during World War II, she was active in the local VFW.
In 2007, Mrs. Thomas moved into town. She lived at Crossroads Assisted Living Facility for six years. In June 2013, due to health reasons, she moved to the Arvada area to be closer to her daughter.
She is survived by her children, Maureen Southerland of Atlanta, Ga., Claudette Thomas-Bourcy of Arvada and Chip Thomas of Bailey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas; and a son, Kevin.
A memorial service was held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Englewood on Dec. 5. A celebration of life will be held in the spring at the VFW post in Delta.
