John Kermit Redd died Dec. 11, 2013, at his home in Nucla. He was 73.
A funeral service was held Dec. 16 at Nucla High School. Burial followed at Nucla Cemetery.
He was born in Moab, Utah, Oct. 4, 1940, to Kermit and Helen (Rogers) Redd. He spent his childhood and attended public school in Paradox. He graduated from high school in Manti, Utah, and attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah.
On June 26, 1971, he married Kathryn L. Wilson in Malta, Idaho.
He lived in Nucla since moving from Paradox in 1991.
Mr. Redd was a retired mining surveyor.
He was a volunteer coach and trainer at the high school for 20 years.He enjoyed hunting, spending time with his family and being outdoors and on the mountain.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Naturita Ward and the Nucla Naturita Ambulance for 18-plus years.
Mr. Redd is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathryn Redd of Nucla; his mother, Helen Redd of Springville, Utah; three children, Karl (Lacie) Redd, Mike (Maegan) Redd and Katrina (Jason) Carver, all of Nucla; one brother, Ken (Kelly) Redd of Los Angeles, Calif.; three sisters, Suzy Redd of Paradox, Virginia (Harold) Johnston of Springville, Utah, and Liz (Bruce) Childs of Lehi, Utah; a sister-in-law, Lila Redd of Blanding, Utah; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald "D.J." Redd; and a brother, Lemuel Redd.
Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory handled the arrangements.
