Shirley Mae Taapa of Cedaredge died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at the HopeWest Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction. She was 63.
Shirley was born to Harold and Veronica Sweet in Cook, Minn., on Oct. 7, 1950.
Shirley loved to surround herself with people who made her happy. She loved to spend time outside in her garden, doing yard work and being with family. She loved music and animals and was a foster mom for dogs. Shirley was a loving grandmother and adored her grandkids. Shirley was a member of the White Earth Nation Chippewa Tribe of White Earth, Minn., and was very proud of her heritage.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Ron) Widner of Hotchkiss; her three grandsons, Seth Russell, Gavin Widner and Chandler Widner; and her siblings, James Sweet of Virginia, Minn., Lucille Nylund of Redding, Calif., Patricia Moyle of Cherry, Minn., Rita Bodas of Sacramento, Calif., Butch Sweet of Olympia, Wash., and Robert Sweet of Sandstone, Minn.
There will be no memorial service at this time. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mesa Funeral Service in Grand Junction. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Shirley's name to HopeWest Hospice in Grand Junction.
