Helen Marie Kungel died Jan. 25, 2014, at her home in Cedaredge. She was 93.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, at Cedaredge Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Gerald "Gerry" Chapman, Pastor Seth Coridan and Pastor Don Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedaredge Cemetery.
Mrs. Kungel was born in Cedaredge Sept. 6, 1920, to Joseph and Mary Jane (Goodwin) Marah. She spent her childhood and attended public schools in Cedaredge.
On May 10, 1970, she married Edwin Kungel in Cedaredge. The couple celebrated 31 years of marriage before Mr. Kungel's death in 2001. She was previously married to Norman Rogers and Merle Kehl.
Mrs. Kungel lived within one block of the Marah family homestead.
She was an English teacher. She received a master's degree from Western State College in Gunnison in 1953.
She was a member of the Teachers' Club and the MRS Club.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cedaredge.
Mrs. Kungel is survived by her stepson, Dallas Kungel of Brighton; her stepdaughter, Rita (Sven) Steinmo of Boulder; two brothers, Patrick (Gwen) Marah and Dale "Mike" (Bertie) Marah, all of Cedaredge; a sister-in-law, Beryle Marah of Cedaredge; four stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Norman Rogers, Merle Kehl and Edwin Kungel; three brothers, Floyd Hamilton, Bill Hamilton and Ed Marah; and one sister, Rosella Cottrell-Martin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of one's choice.
