Ralph Raymond "Donnie" Petty died Jan. 20, 2014, at Swedish Medical Center in Denver. He was 60.
He was born in Alamosa Sept. 10, 1953, to Donald Petty and Barbara Jean Heeren (Shea).
He left Alamosa in the late '80s to become a co-owner/operator for Hostess Distributing in the Delta-Montrose area. He and his wife divorced and in the late '90s he moved to the Sugar City area. He later moved back to Alamosa.
He was employed by the Rocky Ford Feedyard, the railroad and Valley Meat. He worked at Valley Meat until July 2013 when he suffered a blood clot on his spine that left him paralyzed. He died from complications of that illness.
Mr. Petty was a joker and enjoyed being around family and friends.
He is survived by his son, James (Terri) Shaffer of Sanford; his daughter, Kendra Menges of Pueblo; three grandchildren, Eugene, Loretta and EmmaLei; four brothers, Larry Petty of Cheyenne, Wyo., Ronald Duncan of Montrose, Robert (Linda) Petty of Sugar City and Carl Heeren of Eureka, Nev.; one sister, Donna Mathre of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Duncan; and two sisters, Janet Hotz and Phyllis Beautista.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge in Alamosa.blog comments powered by Disqus
